Welcome to “The Adventures of Two Krauts in a Lada”. We’re happy you made your way to our site and want to find out more about us.
So let’s start from the beginning:
Hi – we are Veronika and Thomas, a couple from Germany who try to find a good balance between working and travelling.
For us, this means working “normal” finance/auditing jobs that earn us the money we then spend on our – sometimes month-long – adventure trips.
In the last couple of years, we already spent six months travelling in Russia, Mongolia, China and Southeast Asia in 2015, took a few shorter trips to Egypt, Oman, India, Thailand, Myanmar and the Balkans during 2016/2017 and are now taking it to the next level by driving our own vehicle from Germany to Mongolia and back during summer 2018.
You might ask: If you like travelling so much, why don’t you just leave your boring desk-jobs and start travelling full-time? There are always ways to make money on the road. Others have done it!
That’s not us. We actually like our jobs a lot and find them anything but boring. You could even say, we’re passionate about them and we like to think we’re quite good at what we’re doing.
Additionally, we need our own private homebase, a place to return. When travelling, you meet a lot of great people and make friends with them. But we just love our friends and family back home and need to see them for more than just a couple of days a year.
So leading a normal lifestyle back home with the occasional extended time off seems to be the perfect way of life for us and we are very thankful to be given the opportunity and also the necessary support from our employers to live like this.
What do you mean by “adventure trips”? What have you done while travelling?
Just to give you a few examples: We have been diving Lake Baikal in Siberia, went horse trekking in Mongolia with our own horses, camped on the Great Wall of China, have been hitchhiking along the Tibetan border and took motorbikes around Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar and the Balkans.
We are pretty sure that some of these things don’t even sound too special or adventurous to you. For us they are, because every single one of these experiences have been nothing like anything we have done before.
And that is the essence of what adventure means for us: Doing things we have not done before and not knowing how we will feel about or what will come of them until we tried.
We think the best way you can experience new things is not by staying in 5-star-resorts but by getting to know the locals, that’s what we are trying to do. And we have not been disappointed so far.
What can we expect from Two Krauts in a Lada?
We don’t know yet. Starting a blog is one of the things we have never done before and it will take some time to develop. The original intention is to provide friends and family with photos and updates about our current trip.
Just writing those few lines on this page, we realized that it is actually kind of fun to express some thoughts and feelings about what we are experiencing.
It also brings up a lot of memories from our past travels and we get the feeling that there is a lot to write about.
